Here we go again with the main carachter Elise Gray searching for her saviour shark, a Carcharodon Carcharias or better known as a great white shark...or at least this is what she thinks it is.

THE "SEALOGIC"

Hi again, in this post we´d like to tell you about the amazing catamaran "Sealogic". It is on board this magnificent vessel that our main characters: Elise, John and Maxwell take on the ruthless fishing mafia responsible for the killing and slaughtering of all sorts of precious marine life.She´s powerful carbon fibre catamaran, 30 meters in length with a 15 meter beam, a draught of just 60 cm and weighing only 13 gross tonnes. The width of the hulls in the waterline is only 50 cm which makes her incredibly fast. 

The Sealogic has two electric motors powered by batteries which in turn feed on solar energy collected by tens of photovoltaic panels, arranged across the deck. It also has two 60 kWh generators which can help Sealogic easily reach speeds of over 40 knots and are put into action to steer away from pirates and corrupt coastguards. When the weather permits, she’s powered by cleaner propulsion; a giant kite sail, which John Verin handles skilfully.

It is the 3D model above, designed by Gensu Cash, that will feature in the comic. Talented cartoonist Mariano de la Torre will only have to copy and rotate it before pasting it in the sea that he masterfully creates. We took special care in the designing of the vessel, so we can guarantee that she floats! 

Hola de nuevo, En este post tenemos el orgullo de presentaros a nuestro increible catamarán "Sealogic". Es a bordo de esta bella máquina donde nuestros tres amigos presentarán batalla contra las mafias pesqueras que operan impunemente en el mar, matando y descuartizando todo tipo de vida marina. 

El "Sealogic" es una maravilla de fibra de carbono, de 30 metros de eslora por 15 de manga, un calado de tan sólo 60cm y lo más increíble, un tonelaje bruto de 13 toneladas. El ancho de los cascos en la línea de flotación es de tan sólo 50cm lo que lo hace increiblemente rápido.
El barco dispone de dos motores eléctricos alimentados por baterías que a su vez se alimentan de la energía solar recogida por decenas de placas fotovoltáicas dispuestas a lo largo y ancho de la cubierta del barco.
También dispone de dos generadores de 60kw que utilizan para huir de los piratas y guardacostas corruptos, alcanzando velocidades superiores a los 40 nudos.  
Cuando sopla el viento utilizan otro medio de propulsión todavía mas limpio!: un enorme kite que John Verin maneja con destreza.

Este modelo en 3D, diseñado por Gensu Cash, será usado a lo largo del comic. Mariano de la Torre sólo tendrá que copiarlo, rotarlo y pegarlo en el mar que previamente habra dibujado. Os aseguraramos que tuvimos especial cuidad en el diseño del catamarán y podemos garantizar que flota!

THE TRAGEDY OF SHARK FINNING

An ocean without sharks is a dead ocean. When the ocean dies, the planet will soon follow.

Although illegal in the US, EU and many other countries, it is a fact that between 60 to 100 million sharks are killed each year due to shark finning. Shark finning is the practice of slicing off the shark’s fins while the shark is still alive. The rest of its body is thrown back into the ocean where it can take days to die a slow and painful death. Some sharks starve, others are slowly eaten by other fish, and some drown, because sharks need to keep moving to force water through their gills for oxygen.
Shark fins are a prized ingredient, especially in the Asian market. A kilo of fins can sell for as much as 500USD. and are used to prepare the despicable shark fin soup. An extravagant and perverse gastronomic custom that is devastating to our oceans.
Sharks, inhabitants of the oceans for the last 450 million years, are key to the balance of the marine ecosystem and therefore the Earth.
Being at the top of the food chain and having such a varied diet, sharks are essential in keeping the environment healthy.
The aim of Kharmeg is to raise awareness for this cruel and useless practice that is bringing these amazing animals to the brink of extinction.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

LA TRAGEDIA DEL ALETEO

Un océano sin tiburones es un océano muerto. Cuando el océano muera, el planeta entero le seguirá.

Aunque es una práctica ilegal en EE.UU., la UE y muchos otros países, se estima que cada año mueren entre 60 y 100 millones de tiburones debido al aleteo. Este consiste en atrapar tiburones, cortar sus aletas y devolverlos mutilados al mar, donde mueren asfixiados, desangrados o devorados por otros peces.
La aleta de tiburón es un codiciado producto en el mercado asiático por el que se llegan a pagar hasta 500€ el kilo. Con ella se prepara la ostentosa e insípida sopa de aleta de tiburón. Una costumbre gastronómica extravagante y perversa que está llevando a la extinción una criatura magnifica de la forma más absurda.
Los escualos, moradores de los océanos durante los últimos 450 millones de años son la clave para el equilibrio del ecosistema marino y por ende de la Tierra.
Al estar en la cúspide de la cadena alimenticia y tener una dieta MUY variada, desarrollan una función importantisima para mantener el hábitat sano.
El objetivo de Kharmeg, es dar a conocer esta práctica inútil y cruel y concienciar del peligro de extinción del tiburón además de sus terribles consecuencias para el planeta.

 

SINOPSIS OF KHARMEG

Elise Gray, barely 18 years old, has been an orphan since she was 12. Nothing makes sense to this tormented teenager and she decides to take her own life by throwing herself in the freezing cold South African sea. During this attempt however, and before the effects of hypothermia take effect, she sees a great white caught in anti-shark nets. She frees the shark (thinking this is her last act of kindness) but what eventuates is her survival…and an extraordinary bond between her and the shark..
Elise begins a new life as a marine biologist and creates the Save the Shark foundation. She dedicates her life to saving sharks but her efforts also result in her becoming a target for the mafia groups behind the savage, and unrestrained fishing practices.

Elise Gray acaba de cumplir 18 años y es huérfana desde los 12. Nada tiene sentido para ella y está determinada a acabar con su vida en las frías aguas de Sudáfrica. Antes de que la hipotermia la paralice, ve a un gran blanco atrapado en unas redes anti tiburones. En un último gesto de generosidad lo liberará y entre ellos se establecerá un extraordinario vínculo que determinará su vida.
A través de su propia fundación Save The Shark, la adulta Elise trabajará incansablemente por y para la defensa de los tiburones, así como para difundir las terribles consecuencias de su extinción. Sus constantes denuncias la pondrán en el punto de mira de las mafias...

THE COMIC

Kharmeg is a 64 page, full-colour, action packed adventure comic; a real page-turner! Kharmeg’s creative team consists of Agus Vera, creator/writer, Mariano de la Torre, cartoonist/screenwriter and Fran Vazquez, colourist.
I dreamed up the idea for this comic in 2007, in Los Roques de Venezuela. As a keen sailor/diver I’ve had many encounters with sharks and have always been fascinated by these extraordinary creatures. I started reading more and more about them and so got to know all about the huge problems they are facing! Illegal shark finning has catastrophic consequences, for sharks and our planet! What is shark finning? Good question! But, we’ll get to this a little later…


Kharmeg es un álbum de cómic de aventuras con 64 páginas a color repletas de acción, ecología y suspense. El equipo creativo está formado por mí mismo, Agus Vera (creador y guionista), Mariano de la Torre (co-guionista y dibujante) y Fran Vázquez (colorista).
La idea de escribir este cómic surgió en 2007, en Los Roques de Venezuela. Después de muchos años navegando y trabajando como buzo, había tenido numerosos encuentros con tiburones y sentía una extraordinaria fascinación por ellos. Fue entonces cuando empecé a investigar y me topé con el problema del aleteo y las graves consecuencias de esta práctica ilegal.¿Que qué es el aleteo? Buena pregunta. KHARMEG

Kharmeg is more than a comic. It’s a condemnation of the killing of the most misunderstood and imposing of sea creatures: the shark! In this tale, a vigilante pirate hunter and an antagonistic activist join forces to fight against shark finning: the illegal hunting of sharks for their coveted fins. 

Kharmeg es más que un cómic; es un alegato contra el exterminio del animal más incomprendido y admirado: el tiburón. En esta aventura un justiciero caza piratas y una activista combativa unen sus fuerzas para luchar contra el aleteo; la caza ilegal y cruel del tiburón por sus codiciadas aletas.
